Ray has a longstanding relationship with Northern NSW, Byron Bay. His uncle owned the McNiff's Farm at Rosebank. A love of rural life, animals and endless sky began on his first school holidays 1954. It is where he chose to buy his first property at Tomewin near the Queensland border.
